In these days of endless band reformations, avalanches of reissues and shamelessly repetitious 'creativity', too many artists are willing to sign away their soul for a little extra time on the career clock. Too many of them see artistic expression not as an end in itself, but as a shortcut to celebrity and are obsessed with their destination, rather than engaged by the journey. Too few of them, frankly, are like Underworld. An incredible 27 years after their birth in Romford, Essex as a trio and 15 years after they pressed up their debut single (500 copies of the Balearic twofer, 'Mother Earth'/'The Hump'), Rick Smith and Karl Hyde are still enjoying the ride, grinning like kids as new vistas unfold before them. It's been a long and exhilarating trip - and it's not over yet. more on Underworld »
First thing's first. The Black Eyed Peas are not breaking up. will.i.am, frontman and producer behind the multi-platinum group, wants to get that out of the way right from the start. "We're not going anywhere," he says, by way of introducing his new solo album, SONGS ABOUT GIRLS. "I made the choice in high school to be with a crew and that's never going to change. It was just really important for me to try some things out on my own, with my own artistry and imagination." Indeed. will.i.am has helped steer The Black Eyed Peas into one of the most popular groups in music. They have sold 18 million albums worldwide, have won three Grammy awards and have been nominated for 10 total. The group, though, is a partnership amongst four people. "A will.i.am solo album is a different entity. It's not a Peas record." On his own, will.i.am has established himself as one of music's top producers. He has collaborated on tracks with Justin Timberlake, John Legend, Kelis, Nas, The Game, Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, Sergio Mendes, Carlos Santana, The Pussycat Dolls, Busta Rhymes and fellow Black Eyed Pea, Fergie. He has developed into a highly revered, sought-after musician, songwriter and producer. So when it came time to work on his solo material, will.i.am not only had a blank canvas on which to work, but a palette of A-list talent to team up with. But SONGS ABOUT GIRLS is not a cavalcade of other people's talents. more on Will.i.am >>>

Darren Emerson is one of the most influential figures in dance music after a career spanning more than 17 years and counting...
Whilst growing up on a diet of hip hop, break dancing and later acid house, Emerson brought his first set of decks at 14 and began DJing in clubs at 16. Inspired by DJs such as Jazzy M,
Emerson would travel two hours on a train from his hometown in Essex to visit record stores across London for the latest vinyl.
His first gig was at a club called Outers in Southend, playing early Chicago and Balearic house. He then progressed onto the Milk Bar and Limelight,
DJing alongside Johnny Walker and soon gaining recognition, being named as DJ of the month in both the Face and I-D magazine bookings from across the UK and beyond followed...
Emerson soon chose to ditch his job as an established city trader (or 'runner' on the stock exchange) and take on dance music full time. Come 18,
a friend introduced him to Rick Smith and Karl Hyde. Smith and Hyde had been in a band together for several years and needed a new injection from a
DJ/Producer in the form of Emerson and the rest is... Underworld. more on Darren Emerson »

Her stepfather's a jukebox hero as in Foreigner's Mick Jones and her brother's a star DJ that'd be Mark Ronson so for
Samantha Ronson to get a word in at the dinner table, she had to know her tunes. It wasn't until Ronson was 20 that she discovered her music talents.
Ronson grew up around music going on tour with Foreigner for family vacations and cutting class at her stepfather's studio but she was never interested in playing.
Then, after spending a year in Paris after high school, she returned to New York and realized she had nothing to listen to.
Ronson taught herself to play and sing and eventually put her poetry to the music. She was still a closet performer, though, when a different sort of music opportunity knocked. more on Samantha Ronson »
